Liverpool

This past weekend I went to Liverpool to visit my dear friend Karin. It was my first time up north and it was a bit what I expected (the dialect, the skimpy skirts, all the Beatles paraphernalia) and some unexpected (nice old buildings, interesting maritime museum, good bars), but the best thing was of course to spend three days with Karin, to meet her friends and hang out.

Sunshine

I’m in Liverpool visiting my Swedish friend Karin and even though it is cold and windy here, it was sunny all day yesterday so we made sure to sit outside for lunch and soak up the sunshine.

Ribs, chicken wings, calamari and prawn toast.

Crayfish party

The autumn has come to London. The city is rainy and grey and everyone has the post-holiday blues.

I am however happy! Because tonight we’re having a few friends over for a Swedish crayfish party. I love crayfish, and am so pleased I get to introduce this tradition to my English friends.

Yesterday I made the obligatory Västerbotten cheese quiche, and aioli to dip the tails in. I also made a savoury cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert and the table is set with little red crayfish knives, silly hats and matching napkins. And of course the snaps is being chilled. Can’t wait!

Skål (cheers) and have a nice long weekend!

Now I really want to bake

I received my much awaited (since yesterday) parcels today, containing cake decoration supplies, and really want to start baking at once.

Penguin, reindeer, butterfly and angel cutters
Sparkles in clear and pink
Pastel and ivory and white cupcake cases and snowflake sparkles

Isn’t it cute?! I really like the penguin cookie cutter and can’t wait to use the sparkles.

Supperclub

I will for the first time tonight go to a supperclub, something I was totally unaware even existed a couple of months ago. But I am so looking forward to it! I am going with my foodie friend Gaby and I hope we will have a great evening together with other foodies.

For those of you who haven’t heard about this phenomenon, I would describe it as a restaurant in someone’s house. Some foodies open up their private home for other foodies to come and eat there at communal tables, paying for the food and bringing drinks themselves. It seems like a very sociable food experience!

We are going to Fernandez & Leluu tonight, one of the most popular supperclubs in London at the moment. It is all very secretive; we received an email yesterday with the address, which of course needs to remain a secret as this is their private home and we won’t find out exactly what is on the menu until we arrive tonight.

You will get a thorough description of the evening tomorrow.

Pink champagne truffels

These truffles are my absolute favourite! To visit Charbonnel et Walker’s shop on Bond Street is like stepping into chocolate heaven with cute little boxes.

This is a great gift for someone who has everything, or instead of dessert after a rich meal or whenever you need a little pick me up.

135 g £10.75. I have seem them in Heal’s and the occasional Waitrose as well as the Bond Street shop and the website. If you like chocolate you will love these!

St Germain

I found this elderflower liqueur on Nigella’s website, and it is so fabulous I want to tell everyone I know about it. We have finished off a bottle quite quickly, and everyone we treat to a glass of this is hooked. It is lovely on its own, in a drink, in whipped cream for a dessert, in cakes… In just about anything I think!

Waitrose stock this bottle of deliciousness, and it costs about £15. Please, go and buy it!

Borough Market

This lovely food market is a place I can never get enough of! There are always new things to discover as the seasons change, and yet I haven’t tried all the different lunch options they have, and some I might want to try again. 🙂

When it was Christopher’s birthday last year and he had to work all day, I took my shopping bag and bought all the groceries for his birthday dinner here. Oh, how I wish I could afford to do most my food shopping at Borough Market. That day I came home with girolles, pheasants, scallops, jerusalem artichokes and lots of other vegetables.

And here I can find lots of things I am used to finding in the supermarket in Sweden, girolles (love girolles!) and salsify for example.

My tip is to get here early on a Saturday before the crowds hit around 11am, do all your shopping in your own pace and then when the hunger kicks in, choose one of all the delicious dishes available, take it with you and sit down outside the Southwark Cathedral next door to the market. That’s a Saturday morning well spent!

Swedish pizza!

Something I have been longing for is Swedish pizza. Instead of chip shops we have pizzerias in every village in Sweden, where you can get pizzas, kebabs or the nice combination of both; kebab pizza.

I have really missed these greasy non-Italian style pizzas. They are the perfect way to cure a hangover and you usually have a choice of 50 or so pizzas.

These ones we picked up in Beddinge close to our summer house. Yum!

To the left my choice of ham, cheese, tomatoes, beef, garlic, onions and bearnaise sauce. To the right Christopher’s pizza with spicy sausage, salami, pickled green chillis, bacon and more.

Holiday

Today is one of the best days ever! I am only working a half day so that Christopher and I can have a nice lunch at Gordon Ramsay at Claridges before we fly to Sweden to spend a whole nine days there. I am sooo excited!

I am looking forward to lazy days on the beach, seeing my friends and family, eating lots of crayfish and showing Christopher around, it is his first trip to Sweden.

See you later!
